MOCKINGJAY chapter 12

Some of my reactions as I read chapter 12... I'll come back later to talk more seriously about things. Please feel free to read along with me and share your reactions and start some discussions, but please NOTHING that happens after Chapter 12. And only read this if you've finished Chapter 12!
She can't lose both of them. She just can't. I'm sorry. Not this early in the book, anyway. I'm going to hold on to that.

Huh. For some reason it was in my head that she had already told the bread story to the world. And of course she didn't. Just one of those brain crosswires where I thought everybody knew about that.

Ooh, Finnick's interview... Again, President Snow is the most evil, creepiest thing ever. Sores in the mouth from drinking poison? Heebies.

Peeta! Peeta! Peeta! Peeta!

Oh s#!+.  I did not see that coming.

  1. Okay, the revelation that Snow was selling the victors is one of the things that is still weighing on me the most, hours after reading the entire thing. Quite possibly the most disturbing part of the entire book for me. These people have already been through so much, and now they're being pimped out? Disgusting.

  2. Right?!? And even the ones who weren't sold were still tortured... Haymitch wasn't pretty enough to sell.

And the fact that they have to remain silent. Play act every year as the happy victors and mentors.

Repeatedly, the Capitol takes away the voices of those it oppresses. If you take away people's words, they'll never be able to fight back.

    Gah. Gross.
